The quiet life of Beverly (Doris Day) and Dr. Gerald Boyer (James Garner) is turned upside-down when Beverly becomes a TV spokesperson for Happy Soap, a popular detergent. As Beverly's fame begins to grow and she outshines Gerald, he sets out to make her think he's out carousing so she'll become jealous and return to contented domesticity.
