Product Notes

Addison's 'Lay The Buddha Down EP' comes just four months after the 'Freeze Out EP' was released to acclaim both stateside and in the U.K. Adequacy.net wrote 'guitars that crunch are met with soaring vocals and it's obvious why the band has been getting some attention' and both 'Freeze Out' and Addison's cover of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' were highlighted in a November 2009 interview with the BBC's Billy Butler. In fact, Gerry Marsden of Gerry & The Pacemakers sat in on the BBC interview and proclaimed that Addison's version of the classic Merseyside hit 'was better than ours, the swines.' 'Lay The Buddha Down' centers around the driving title track, which like three of the four songs on the EP features J-rock influenced music written by lead guitarist Yoshi Takebuchi set to impassioned vocals from lead singer Joshua Arce. The 'Buddha' in this instance is a figure familiar to many, but to be determined by few. The track 'Shanghai' is somewhat of a departure for the band, constituting perhaps the first pure 'love song' from the band in 5 releases. 'Screws' was knocked out in a single session when the band was inspired to lock themselves in the studio and write a song around Yoshi's cryptic utterance that morning: 'Guys, I bought some screws.' The final track, Vallejo, is a tribute to the vitality and positive vibes coming out of the East San Francisco Bay Area when the track was written in the summer of 2007 and completed in 2008. More great tunes from an up-and-coming rock band.
